Dr. Hobbins, a seasoned nurse practitioner of over 25 years, received her Doctor of Nursing Practice degree from the University of Utah. She is board certified as both an Addictions and Women's Health Care Nurse Practitioner. She is a Licensed Substance Abuse Counselor (LSAC) and has been working in the field of addiction medicine for over a decade. She is expert in the management of medication-assisted treatment utilizing methadone and Suboxone and opioid withdrawal. Dr. Hobbins' primary specialization was initially women's health, however, after the 1996 heroin-overdose death of her 20-year old son, Erik; her soul led her to addiction treatment. She is committed to individualized, evidence-based care and is incredibly grateful for all that her patients have taught her. If she can help but one person, Erik's death was not in vain. Dr. Hobbins is currently involved in the treatment of opioid addiction and chronic pain. In her position with the State of Utah, she is responsible for the Boards of Nursing and Pharmacy.
Dr. Hobbins was most recently appointed to the SAMHSA/CSAT group assigned to develop modules and provide national training with these modules for opioid treatment professionals, particularly those in the states with highest rates of methadone overdose fatalities. She was also a member of the expert nurse panel charged with developing a national methadone guide for nurses.
Dr. Hobbins has a particular interest in pharmacogenetics, methadone biotransformation, and epigenetics. She serves on several local and state committees related to substance abuse and currently has a private clinical pain practice and is employed in a methadone maintenance treatment facility, Tranquility Place, in Salt Lake City. Dr. Hobbins joins Lifetree as Executive Research Scientist, Lifetree Center for Neuroscience Research, where she will bring a wealth of passion and knowledge to Lifetree's addiction medicine and abuse liability research.
She has received many awards for excellence in clinical practice, was recently awarded the Brigham Young University College of Nursing Honored Alumnus 2011 for her contributions to the nursing profession, and has authored numerous lay and peer-reviewed journal articles and textbook chapters on various topics in her specialties. Dr. Hobbins has presented on local, state, and national levels, has served her professional organizations in local and national positions, as well as serving as a reviewer for many peer-reviewed journals.
