Mark A. Johnston, M.D.
Principal Investigator
Dr. Johnston received his medical degree from the University of Utah School of Medicine and his residency training at the University of Utah Affiliated Hospitals. He served as the Chair of the Members in Training Committee for the American Psychiatric Association during his residency. He is board certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology.
Dr. Johnston has 20 years of clinical experience in the treatment of psychiatric illnesses. He has extensive experience in both outpatient and inpatient settings as well as long experience in treating individuals with chronic and severe mental illnesses. He has served as an Adjunct Associate Professor at the University of Utah School of Medicine and as a medical director of a 40 bed psychiatric and chemical dependency hospital.
Dr. Johnston has been involved in psychiatric clinical research for 17 years. Areas of research activity have included mood disorders, schizophrenia, dementia, pain and Parkinson's Disease. Dr. Johnston has been principal investigator of multiple studies over the past 6 years.
Dr. Johnston has served both his community and his profession in multiple capacities. He has spoken on behalf of organizations such as the National Alliance for the Mentally Ill and the Alzheimer's Association. He has been President of the Utah Psychiatric Association and a member of the Executive Committee for the Assembly of the American Psychiatric Association.
