N. Lee Smith, MD

Sub-Investigator

Dr. Smith received his medical degree from the University of California, San Francisco. Following his residency in Internal Medicine at the University of Utah Medical Center and board certification in Internal Medicine, he developed a subspecialty in Behavioral Medicine and Pain. He previously practiced general internal medicine in Salt Lake City and Washington, DC.

Dr. Smith is currently serving as a sub-investigator at Lifetree Clinical Research and has been primary Investigator on many research studies in the areas of pain problems (fibromyalgia, headache, back pain, arthritis); fatigue; sleep problems; irritable bowel syndrome, depression and anxiety, unexplained physical problems (chest pain, trouble breathing, palpitations, dizziness); and both nonpharmacological and medical approaches to these problems.

Dr. Smith is the Chairman of Research for the Organization for Fatigue and Fibromyalgia Education and Research. He has chaired national education programs and curriculum committees on the effects of depression and stress on medical illness, and on fibromyalgia. He coauthored the textbook Mind/Body Health: The Effects of Attitudes, Emotions, and Relationships, and served as Case Review Editor for the Journal of Pain and Palliative Care Pharmacotherapy.

Dr. Smith established the Stress Medicine Clinic at the University of Utah and the Center for Interdisciplinary Medicine at HeathSouth Rehabilitation Hospital in Salt Lake City. He previously served as Vice Chairman of the Department of Internal Medicine and as chairman of the General Internal Medicine / Primary Care Task Force and the Behavioral and Stress Medicine Task Force at LDS Hospital in Salt Lake City.

N. Lee Smith MD is Director of Stress Medicine at Omega Pain Clinic in Salt Lake City, Utah, and is also Adjunct Associate Professor of Medicine at the University Of Utah School Of Medicine.
