LIFETREE CLINICAL RESEARCH® CHIEF MEDICAL DIRECTOR TO BE FEATURED ON DISCOVERY CHANNEL CONTINUING MEDICAL EDUCATION PROGRAM
Salt Lake City – The chief medical director of Lifetree Clinical Research® and Pain Clinic, one of the largest specialized clinical research organizations in the Western region of the United States, will be a medical panelist on the Discovery Channel CME program "Critical Issues in Managing Pain with Opioid Therapy.” Lynn R. Webster, M.D. is one of three faculty experts in the program premiering Saturday, June 5, 2010 at 8 a.m. ET on Discovery Channel. Check listings for local times. According to the CME program description, "Critical Issues in Managing Pain with Opioid Therapy” will review the evidence that demonstrates the prevalence of chronic pain and its debilitating, costly effects when inadequately treated. Opioid therapy may be an integral part of a patient’s treatment plan if the proper precautions and direction are taken prior to its induction. However, there are serious concerns by clinicians related to the development of addiction and other aberrant drug-related behaviors in patients for whom opioid therapy may be necessary. This program is designed to discuss the implementation of a pain management plan that utilizes risk assessment tools and monitoring strategies and provides considerations for the use of abuse-deterrent formulations of opioid therapy. "Lifetree Clinical Research is pleased to have Dr. Webster participate in this program,” said Lifetree Clinical Research CEO Alice Jackson. "Under his direction, Lifetree Clinical Research has become the leading specialized clinical research organization in abuse deterrent formulation. There are an estimated 70 million people living with chronic pain in America today. This critical research is needed to assist the pharmaceutical industry in developing painkillers that retain life-saving analgesia but reduce or preclude unwanted and potentially harmful effects.” Joining Dr. Webster as medical experts on this program are director of the Pain Management Center at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, New Hampshire, Gil Fanciullo, M.D. and Founder of the Chronic Pain Management Program at Kaiser Permanente in San Diego, Calif., Bill H. McCarberg, M.D. "Critical Issues in Managing Pain with Opioid Therapy” is jointly sponsored by Postgraduate Institute for Medicine and Integrity CE. The program is made possible by an educational grant from King Pharmaceuticals. The program will repeat Saturday, June 12 and June 19 at 8 a.m. ET. Check listings for local times.
