| LIFETREE CLINICAL RESEARCH® EXPANDS LIFETREE CENTER FOR NEUROSCIENCE RESEARCH TEAM Salt Lake-based company adds psychiatrist to staff Salt Lake City— Lifetree Clinical Research®, one of the largest specialized clinical research organizations in the Western region of the United States, is expanding the Lifetree Center for Neuroscience Research team by adding Dr. Michael C. Stevens, a psychiatrist, to its staff. Lifetree Clinical Research® supports the pharmaceutical, medical device and biotechnology industries through site services, clinical trials management including drug development, regulatory support, medical monitoring, data management, statistical analysis, medical writing, project management, recruitment and monitoring. In February 2009, the company expanded its services to include a broader range of central nervous system-related investigations with the formation of Lifetree Center for Neuroscience Research. Stevens will be taking on the role of senior research scientist and principal investigator on the Lifetree Center for Neuroscience Research team. Alice Jackson, CEO and founder of Lifetree Clinical Research® says, "Dr. Stevens is a very accomplished psychiatrist with specific interests in schizophrenia and ADHD research, has extensive experience in treatment and research in a wide array of disorders in adult, child and adolescent psychiatry and has an ongoing interest in the developmental aspects of psychiatric disorders. He also has vast expertise in child psychiatry, and we are fortunate to have him join our company.” Stevens has been a principal investigator in clinical research studies in the pharmacological treatment of psychiatric disorders in children and adolescents, and he is interested in continuing research in this population, where he notes that "Current clinical practice currently lacks a body of research adequate to support existing practice patterns in this vulnerable population.” In addition to his work with Lifetree Center for Neuroscience Research, Stevens will continue in his role as medical director at Davis Behavioral Health in Layton, Utah where he will maintain his work as an active clinician in diagnosing and treating child, adolescent and adult disorders. Jackson notes that Stevens has had experience as a principal investigator on a number of pharmaceutical industry-sponsored studies, and has published 12 papers based on his research. He was a principal investigator in the CATIE study, the seminal NIMH funded multi-site study of the comparative outcomes of a number of anti-psychotics in the treatment of Schizophrenia in clinical settings and was a co-author of the article in Schizophrenia Bulletin that delineated the purpose, experimental design and outcome measures of the study. Stevens has delivered over 300 presentations on a number of aspects of psychiatric illness, including the diagnosis, treatment, developmental aspects, research developments, and the economics of psychiatric care in children, adolescents, and adults. He has been a member of the Committee on Atypical Antipsychotics for Utah’s Medicaid Administrative Services since 2003, and directed a program in 2004 to optimize the evidence-based utilization of second generation anti-psychotics by prescribers among Medicaid enrollees in Utah. In 1998, Dr. Stevens was awarded the Exemplary Psychiatrist Award in Utah by the National Alliance for the Mentally Ill. Stevens received his M.D. from the University of North Carolina and completed his residency in General Psychiatry (serving as chief resident in 1986), and fellowship in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at the University of Utah Health Sciences Center. He is a diplomate in General Psychiatry, and certified in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. He has been designated a certified clinical research Investigator by the Association of Clinical Research Professionals. He has previously served as the president of the Utah Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, and as public affairs representative of the Utah Psychiatric Association. He is an adjunct assistant professor of Psychiatry at the University of Utah Health Sciences Center.
